As surprised as I was when spotting those Rooks, in Mike & Leslie's garden, yesterday it was very unexpected when two turned up in our garden when I threw some stale bread onto the lawn for the local Herring Gulls, this morning. I have never needed to use the food recycling facility, which is part of the Thanet refuse collection system, as the gulls, corvids and foxes are more than grateful to utilise this supply. Things like potato peelings and similar, are just placed on the compost heap, so a refund on the Council Tax bill must be due - I don't think!
It is a situation which I am completely unable to explain, so will simply enjoy it whilst it lasts.
Both images were taken through the double glazed window of my study door, so not quite as sharp as they might have been if the door had been left open.
I've been regularly visited by rooks in my garden for the last few years. I have a (poor) picture of one on my seed feeder whilst a squirrel is feeding on the opposite side. We even had a brief visit from a raven meaning I just need a Chough for the corvid set - but I'm more likely to get a humming bird before that.
ReplyDeleteHi Dave,
DeleteThat original encounter was totally unexpected yet, they are still hanging around the area and visiting the feeding stations in several of my neighbours gardens. I have had Ravens perched on the field directly beyond the garden hedge, but won't hold my breathe waiting for one on the lawn. Chough, however, is an increasingly likely bird to appear on my garden list as the reintroduction scheme, along the White Cliffs of Dover, begins to show results. The only Humming-bird I am expecting will be a Hawk-moth! Many thanks for taking time to comment - Dylan
