As Sarah eluded to in her last post, work has been overwhelmingly hectic lately. If only people would heed my advice and try their central heating out in September, rather than waiting for it to get cold before discovering that their diverter valves have seized in the hot water position! Sorry, rant over.
As a result of the torrent of cold clients, I've only managed a couple of trips out after the perch, and they were only short trips. I have still managed to catch a few, and a couple of pike on small roach live-baits, the best of them being a 2lb 14oz specimen. Just to make life a bit more fun, I've been using my old Bruce and Walker MKiv Avon and my JW Youngs Rolling Pin.

This season, completely inspired by my dads love of using centre-pins, even when they're completely impractical and definitely the wrong tool for the job, our local group of PAC members have decided to undertake a "biggest pike on the pin" challenge in his name. This spans the whole pike season but certain trout and syndicate waters have been banned from the competition, as has my Rolling Pin reel, it has to be an accessible water and a standard pin, not a side caster like the one in the above photos. My good friend Simon is going to make the trophy at his machine shop using one of my dads old wooden centre-pins. I will write something more on this once its in full swing and I can upload a photo of the trophy, I will of course be using my dads old Grice and Young "Big Piker" when targeting the pike, but will also switch the perch gear over to my Avon Royal Supremes just in case I hook a big pike whilst targeting the perch!

| We bought this reel for Dad on his 70th, he never got the chance to use it, hopefully I can do him proud and win the trophy with it. |
I'm out piking at the syndicate tomorrow so hopefully will have something else to write about, even if it doesn't count towards the centre-pin challenge.
Tight lines,
Benno.
