Who am I?

Last cast of 2024

With the forecast predicting wind and rain, on a biblical scale, for New Year's Day I've decided to hedge my bets and grab a few hours on the bank tomorrow morning. I'm headed out on the flatlands; Black Dyke looks the most likely option?  Because of Bev's medical situation angling hasn't been a particularly high priority and yet I've certainly enjoyed a few highs during 2024. I have no intention of posting a yearly review of my journey so this will have to do. 1st February on the RMC (Royal Military Canal) I land a brace of "twenties" (Pike) for the first time.

The next major milestone was reached when, whilst at Sandwich Coarse Fishery, I caught a 25 lbs 8 oz Mirror Carp using the 1959 "Dick Walker" Mk IV split cane rod that I'd received as a 60th birthday present from my family.

So with the clock ticking steadily towards the start of another "New Year" I have one final chance to add another statistic to my tally. With quite a bit to attend to, after New Year's Day, the next session with the rods is going to be very special indeed! Saturday, 4th January, will see me casting a bait into a venue which I would never have imagined possible?  More about this Canterbury/Thanet PAC Region event once the calendar flicks over to 2025.

  2. Happy New Year, Dylan!

Good Luck with the new piking spot- that sounds highly intriguing...

I'm stuck indoors with covid/flu or a bad cold. Spent the whole weekend in bed, which is unheard of me. So I'll be watching my fireworks via the telly, this evening.

Just had a lovely comment on my blog from a chap called Rob, who said he met you last year on the RMC; seemed a smashing fellow.

I'll be bass, bass, bass- and more bass, from April onwards, even without my car, and whatever the doctors says about these seizures... Life must go on. And life for me includes getting out there and having some fishing. I'm getting a push bike for bassing (expect some scribble re: the 'bass bike' come May time!)

Also found a good eeling mark, not far from a bus spot near where I work- so, wheels or not, I'll fit that in next summer. Bit of climbing but I reckon I'm up to it. Some pythons to be had in east Kent. I still believe the 'elders' lurk locally.

God Bless you and the family, mate-

    Happy 2025- Gazza
