Who am I?

An individual, of no great importance, who is unable to see the natural world as a place for competition. I catch fish, watch birds, derive immense pleasure from simply looking at butterflies, moths, bumble-bees, etc - without the need for rules! I am Dylan and this is my blog - if my opinions offend? Don't bother logging on again - simple!

Feeding station fun

I am struggling to stay enthused about anything, at present. I'll get over it and things will sort themselves out, I'm sure. It has got more to do with things beyond my control, than anything else, and I find myself a little bemused by the whole situation. Just to compound the whole scene, my laptop took a dive and I have been struggling to get rid of some rather unpleasant, and completely unwanted, apps which suddenly appeared on my control panel.

There are a couple of pairs of Great Tits visiting the feeding station - this male has even started singing!
To keep my spirits in some form of order, I've kept the camera by the back door and have been playing around with settings and converters to see what I can achieve through the double-glazed panel. Some of the images haven't been too bad?



  

Just for Richie Francis - we still have good numbers of House Sparrows
visiting the garden. Quite often there are fifty plus on and around the
feeding station - it gets rather hectic, and expensive!

    It's amazing how so many of us are getting such large numbers of Spuggies. Visit most gardens on Sheppey with bird feeders out and they will be covered in Spuggies.
    As for the lack of enthusiasm at the moment, well I guess many of us feel the same, it's that February blues time, where we are gagging for March and Spring and it's taking ages to arrive.

      Hi Derek, talking with the guys that I work with, it would seem that House Sparrow distribution around Thanet is very "patchy". Around Newland's and Pyson's Road Ind Est. there still seem to be very good numbers. The lads from Margate/Palm Bay tell a very different story - all very strange. My lack of enthusiasm isn't linked to the weather - there are things going on behind the scenes which are getting very tedious, yet beyond my sphere of influence. It will all work out in the end, I'm sure.

    Hi Dyl, I'll send you a picture of House Sparrows which I took in New Zealand. I'm certain I have the answer to their curious demise in the cities and suburbs.
    I pack a cage feeder with compressed mashed fruit and fat balls, grated cheese and sunflower kernels. There's a whole procession of birds pecking away at this feast including a male and female Blackcap.
