I spent a fortnight at Marmaris in May 1994 and often recall the birds you mention (although I missed Rock Partridge - ouch!) and I didn't know there were porcupines there either (double ouch!) You're absolutely right about the Long-tailed Tits and Jays. And I can still hear the thin song of a Cretzchmar's coming up from a rocky valley and causing very great excitement when I tracked it down. Even its name is hugely exotic!

I didn't discover your walk, maybe it wasn't known by the tourists in 94? The Köyceğiz Delta was my stomping ground with some stunning species found - Smyrna Kingfisher, Rufous Bushchat (both now known by different names!), Levant Sparrowhawk, flocks of Red-footed Falcons riding the leading edge of a huge thunderstorm, Squacco's and egrets flushing up from the reeds with every thunder crash! Finally found Kruper's Nuthatch in a patch of pine scrub just outside Marmaris town centre with just a couple of days to go before flying homewards, a small flock calling their funny nasal noises. Delightful, thanks for the memories, matey! Gibsterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14699055561230102061noreply@blogger.com
